Frequently asked questions
General
Tallow is rendered beef suet that closely mimics the natural oils in our skin. It is deeply moisturizing and has been used traditionally for centuries. We source our own suet fat from our farm and truly believe in head-to-toe use. By utilizing the suet fat it is a great way to keep our skin hydrated.
Yes, tallow based products do have a shelf life. Properly stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, they typically last 9-12 months. We recommend always using clean, dry hands when applying your tallow to prevent any introduction of water into the product.
Individuals with sensitive skin find our products beneficial because we use mostly infusions. We do carry a few essential oil products. It is recommended that you use natural infusions for any sensitivities. Our sensitive line contains an infusion of organic chamomile and organic calendula flower or using the unscented is always a great option!
We only use suet fat from our own cattle on our generational farm and it is butchered at a licensed, inspected butcher.
Yes, Yes and Yes! We spend about 4 hours on each batch of rendering cleaning the facia and scent glands out of all of the suet fat. We use a wet render to purify and separate the remaining tissues out. Then we use multiple low, dry renders to ensure all water content is removed and the tallow is shelf stable.
Yes, we whip our tallow. Do not let the ads fool you saying that you pay more for whipped tallow. Net weight is net weight and if companies are properly labeling, 2oz is the same whipped or in a balm. We find my recipes work better whipped so that it leaves your skin feeling hydrated and nourished without a greasy, oily feeling.
Due to the nature of our products, we do not accept returns. However, if you are not satisfied with any of our products, please reach out to us at info@1968valleyfarms.ca
